Gilberto Gil and Devendra Banhart
Lately I’ve been paying attention to all sorts of media and advertisements around me and I’ve noticed how certain advertisements are placed in certain places, because they are aimed towards certain people. I went to a concert tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, where Gilberto Gil, an old classic Brazilian singer and Devendra Banhart, a relatively new hip singer were playing. I found it so interesting the split between the types of people that were there to see both artists. It was very clear who came to see who. The people who went to see Gilberto Gil were mostly brazilian people in Los Angeles. The ones who probably went to see Devendra Banhart were all very hip ecelectic younger people dressed in a very particular stylish way. Anyways, what I found interesting as well were the ads at the hollywood bowl. Because such a variety of people go there all the time, I think the advertisements at the were not aiming towards a certain group of people so much. The ones i remebered most were a shiny new red lexus, wamu, and of course advertising for the hollywood bowl and other artists performing there. I didn’t think that the advertisements aimed towards any certain, age, sex, ethinicity, or anything else. I guess the one thing that everyone there had in common was their love for music. For those who have never heard of either of the two, I would recommend checking them out.

Interesting, I will check the person from Brazil. Do you know if they sounded the way that they sound on their CDS? I also ask myself who would be seeing an ad while at a concert?

Yes, he is pretty amazing. He is getting pretty old so his energy level wasn’t as high, but his music is always beautiful. He’s a true musician, he is also the minister of culture of Brazil. I think that’s pretty cool. I believe he’s in his 60s and still going strong. As far as ads at concerts, thats a good point, but really I think ads are everywhere we go and maybe we don’t even notice they are there but they somehow sneak their way into our subconscious.
